Kinderen en jeugdigen die somber of angstig zijn, woedeaanvallen hebben of anders zijn, zijn van alle tijden. Steeds ook waren er mensen die zich het lot van deze kinderen aantrokken, die trachtten hulp te bieden. Al vanaf de middeleeuwen werd nagedacht over een methodische vorm van hulp bij ‘probleemkinderen’. Sinds de eerste daadwerkelijke publicaties over de behandeling van kinderen en jongeren zijn inmiddels honderd jaar verstreken. Een eeuw publicaties over psychotherapie in het algemeen, en kinder- en jeugdpsychotherapie in het bijzonder, heeft vele mooie artikelen en boeken opgeleverd. Veel van de oudere werken zijn moeilijk toegankelijk, waardoor de meeste kinder- en jeugdpsychotherapeuten (in opleiding) niet direct kennis kunnen nemen van deze artikelen. Deze lacune heeft – in navolging van de Klassiekers van de kinder- en jeugdpsychiatrie deel I en deel II (Verheij, Treffers, 2004, 2008) – geleid tot een deel III: Klassiekers van de kinder- en jeugdpsychotherapie.  In dit boek zijn op basis van de vier meest invloedrijke referentiekaders (het psychoanalytische, het cliëntgerichte, het behavioristische en het systeemtheoretische kader) en bepaalde tijdsperioden hoofdstukken en artikelen gebundeld die voor de ontwikkeling van het vakgebied een bijzondere betekenis hebben gehad. In korte introducties wordt de geschiedenis beschreven en wordt besproken welke ‘oude’ denkbeelden, inzichten en interventies nog zijn terug te vinden en wat hun invloed is op de dagelijkse praktijk. Over de auteurs : F. Verheij is als hoogleraar kinder- en jeugdpsychiatrie/hoofd patiëntenzorg verbonden aan het Erasmus MC-Sophia te Rotterdam en hij is hoofdopleider kinder- en jeugdpsychotherapie bij de RINO-groep in Rotterdam, Leiden en Utrecht.  C.
